Nagela, born in the heart of the Caribbean, has a story rich in resilience, passion, and an enduring connection to her heritage. After moving to the U.S. to build a better future, she worked tirelessly to create a legacy of wealth for her family, using food as a bridge to connect, celebrate, and enjoy life. Her travels across the world, dining with friends and strangers alike, deepened her love for diverse flavors and cultures. The first time she tasted Chef Duke’s food, she was captivated. His artful, complex flavors spoke to her senses and inspired her vision for a new venture.

Nagela approached Chef Duke Estime, a celebrated James Beard House Award-winning chef whose skill and creativity bring unmatched depth to every dish. Together, they envisioned a modern, sophisticated restaurant where Chef Duke’s mastery of flavor and Nagela’s love for gathering people could merge in a sophisticated yet inviting space.

CHEF DUKE ESTIME

Executive Chef Duke Estime, a James Beard House Award recipient, brings artistry and a global perspective to the heart of Ou La’s kitchen.

A graduate of the New York Institute for Culinary Education, Chef Duke honed his craft in renowned establishments, including as Executive Chef at Le Malt, The Mark Hotel and Estime Cafe and has been featured in The New York Times, NBC New York Live, The Star Ledger, Industry Magazine, and other prestigious publications.

Chef Duke’s culinary journey is a mosaic of techniques and inspirations gathered from around the world, including the Haitian dishes he grew up on. Each plate he designs at Ou La balances tradition with innovation, giving guests a dining experience that feels both familiar and new.
